Comprehensive Perinatal Mental Health Support for Every Stage

Pregnancy and the months that follow bring enormous change in every part of life, affecting your body, emotions, and relationships. Each stage can feel different. For example, you might feel anticipation and excitement early on, physical discomfort or uncertainty later, and a flood of new emotions once the baby arrives.

For many, it’s a time of joy intertwined with worry, fatigue, or unexpected sadness. We understand that these feelings can be confusing and hard to talk about. Our role at Therapeutic Health Associates is to help you navigate these transitions with care that’s evidence-based, practical, and grounded in compassion.

We work with women who are planning for pregnancy, currently pregnant, or postpartum. Some have a history of depression or anxiety and want to remain steady as they grow their family. Others experience new or different symptoms during pregnancy or after childbirth like panic, intrusive thoughts, or a deep sense of overwhelm, and need support to feel like themselves again. Our goal is to provide a safe place to talk openly, evaluate what’s happening, and find a plan that feels both effective and safe for you and your baby.

When To Reach Out

Many of our patients come to us because something feels off. You might be newly pregnant and unsure whether to stay on your medication. You might be months postpartum and still not feeling like yourself.

Sometimes anxiety shows up as racing thoughts or fear that something terrible might happen while depression might look like irritability, guilt, or numbness instead of tears. We help you sort through what’s normal, what needs attention, and what can help you feel more stable and supported.

It’s never too early or too late to ask for help, whether you’re planning a pregnancy, in your third trimester, or breastfeeding a newborn.

How We Work Together

Our process starts with listening. We want to understand your story and how you’ve been feeling, what’s changed, and what you hope for. During your first visit, we review your medical and mental health history, sleep patterns, nutrition, stress levels, and support system. We’ll also talk about your medications, supplements, and any past experiences with treatment.

Together, we create a plan that aligns with your values and goals. Sometimes that means adjusting medications for pregnancy or breastfeeding safety. Sometimes it means starting therapy, making lifestyle changes, or exploring gentle supplement support. Every plan is collaborative and designed to meet you where you are.

We also communicate with your OB, midwife, or therapist (with your permission) to make sure everyone caring for you is on the same page. That coordination helps create safety, clarity, and continuity as your care unfolds.

Root Causes & Common Experiences

Perinatal and postpartum mood changes are more than a matter of brain chemistry. They affect the whole body in complex ways. Hormones shift dramatically, sleep becomes fragmented, and even small things like hydration, nutrition, and sunlight can change how the brain functions and how you feel day to day. We look at all of it, helping you identify what’s contributing to your symptoms and where we can intervene.

You might be feeling

These experiences are common, but they can feel destabilizing and confusing. They’re also not something you have to face alone. With treatment and a thoughtful plan, each small step forward builds strength and confidence. We offer steady support so you can reconnect with yourself and find calm again.

Medication & Safety During Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

We know one of the hardest parts of seeking help during pregnancy or postpartum is the fear around medication. You might be wondering if it’s safe to stay on what’s already working, or if you should stop completely. You might have been told by another provider that “you can’t breastfeed on medication.” We want you to know that’s not always true.

We specialize in reviewing each medication carefully, looking at dosage, timing, and safety data for pregnancy and lactation. When possible, we simplify regimens, reduce doses, or switch to better-studied options. We also discuss non-medication support so you feel confident that every choice is informed and balanced.

Integrative Tools & Whole-Person Care

We take an integrative approach that blends medical expertise with gentle, supportive strategies for recovery. Each person’s needs and comfort level guide how we build the plan together.

Our work often starts with the basics like rest, nourishment, and mindfulness before layering in other support as needed.

Sleep & rest planning

Nutritional & supplement support

Assessing deficiencies that can affect mood and energy, such as iron, vitamin D, or B12.

Simple mindfulness or relaxation strategies that can reduce anxiety and promote calm.

Partner & family support

Educating loved ones about what’s happening and how they can help.

Our goal is not only to relieve symptoms but also to help you rebuild a sense of steadiness and confidence.

We want you to feel supported, understood, and reconnected to yourself and the people you love.
